On 31 July 2026, the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) issued Directive 10, introducing additional
information requirements for certain categories of accountable institutions.
The Directive requires affected accountable institutions to provide the FIC with information regarding
their geographic footprint and to ensure that this information remains accurate and up to date.
For existing accountable institutions that fall within the scope of the Directive, the required information
must be submitted to the FIC within 90 days of the Directive taking effect, which is by 29 October 2026.
Who does Directive 10 apply to?
Directive 10 does not apply to every accountable institution.
It applies to accountable institutions listed under the following items in Schedule 1 to FICA:
• Item 1 – Legal practitioners;
• Item 2 – Trust and company service providers;
• Item 3 – Estate agents;
• Item 9 – Gambling institutions;
• Item 11 – Credit providers;
• Item 14 – Postbank;
• Item 20 – High-value goods dealers;
• Item 21 – South African Mint Company; and
• Item 22 – Crypto asset service providers.
Thus, this Directive is not relevant to FSP’s (item 12 on Schedule 1), BUT, if you are an FSP that is also
registered with the FIC under one of the applicable Schedule 1 categories, for example, as a credit
provider or crypto asset service provider, the Directive applies to you and the relevant reporting is
required. ComplyEeze will assist its clients with further guidance related to this reporting requirement.
What information must be provided?
Affected accountable institutions are required to provide the FIC with prescribed information about
their geographic locations.
This includes information relating to the accountable institution’s head office and, where applicable,
its branches and other relevant locations. The information forms part of the institution’s registration
information with the FIC and must be submitted electronically using the FIC’s registration (goAML)
platform. Importantly, the obligation does not end with the initial submission. Affected accountable
institutions must ensure that their geographic information remains accurate and up to date and must
update the FIC when relevant information changes.
What should affected institutions do now?
If your business falls within one of the Schedule 1 categories covered by Directive 10:
1. Confirm your FIC registration category.
Determine whether the legal entity is registered under one of the affected Schedule 1 items.
2. Review your geographic information.
Identify your head office, branches and other locations that must be reported in accordance with
the Directive.
3. Update the information on the FIC registration platform.
Existing affected accountable institutions should ensure that the required information is submitted by
29 October 2026.
4. Keep it current.
Include geographic information in your process for maintaining and updating the institution’s FIC
registration information.
